I like how you open a window rather than close a door by inviting people to reconsider assumptions, not by shouting for attention but by laying out a perspective that is clearly thought through.

Even so, I found myself wondering about the details that sit just outside the frame. The analysis is compelling, but I kept thinking about how messy the real world can be and how often the exceptions or long term consequences end up shaping the story more than the headline point.

Thank you for your comment, Paul! Very much agree with your reflection; the world is messy and the context for each club is somewhat different in terms of style of play and positional need. So, the aim was to lay out a framework and inspire clubs to think differently and strategically.

Very interesting article and a great use of not only statistics but a clever use of the financial constraints put on MLS clubs. College soccer in the US and University football in Japan seem like two underrated 'player pools' to scout from and it would be interesting to see from what angle these 'pools' could be looked at to find the best talent within.

Thank you for your comment, Jimmy! You are mentioning two very exciting player pools - hopefully I will get the chance to look into those in the future 🤞

Hey, great read as always. I particulary appreciated the thesis "Outthinking, Not Outspending," as it perfecly encapsulates the strategic optimization problem clubs confront.

Interesting research finding this : ‘teams who spend a greater proportion of their salary on attacking players perform less efficiently.’

Thank you for sharing!
